Our commitment

The question of whether the operation of a beer tent is climate-neutral can be answered with a clear YES. Cooperation with regional producers and the reduction of transport routes are our concrete measures for climate protection. In addition, we make a voluntary contribution to CO2 compensation.

Our motto is “not just talk, but act”: the kilometers driven that are connected with the transport of the beer tent components and the daily delivery of the food are recorded year after year. The energy consumed during the days of the event also is a part of the environmental balance of our beer tent.

The CO2 emissions associated with the operation of our beer tent are compensated with compensatory measures that are carried out on a voluntary basis. Each year we finance the reafforestation of 10 hectars of forest, an area that can store around 130 tons of CO2 per year. This amount is equal approximately to the driven vendor kilometers and the power consumption of the beer tent.

On the Philippines, Vietnam and in Sri Lanka, we cultivate formerly deforested areas with mixed forests suitable for the site, including (depending on the area) fruit trees, fiber plants, rattan and bamboo. Not only new habitats for animals and plants are created, but also important protection of the population from soil erosion is carried out. The coordination and implementation of the measures is in the hands of the sustainability foundation “NatureLife International”.

Special importance is also put on the selection of regional suppliers. For example, all the bread rolls – which at least are 150.000 pieces – are baked from regionally produced organic flour in a nearby bakery. We also do not compromise on meat and sausage products. Our most important partner, the “Bäuerliche Erzeugergemeinschaft Schwäbisch Hall” with more than 460 organic farms provides us with a quality of meat that has been produced according to particularly strict guidelines. For example, during the fattening period, the animals only receive in-house feed, purchased feed must be obtained from the immediate vicinity of the farm.

In addition, we use green electricity from the “Stadtwerke Stuttgart” for Grandls Hofbräu Zelt. The “Stadtwerke Stuttgart” currently is operating a total of 31 wind turbines at six locations in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse, saving around 140.000 tons of harmful CO2 per year.

Or simply said: celebrating with a clear conscience – that is possible in Grandls Hofbräu Zelt!
